Our Favorite Children's Bibles and Devotionals
There are so many wonderful children’s devotions out there for all sorts of families. There also seems to be many beautiful children’s storybook bibles out on the market, which is a good thing! Over time we have come to build up a nice collection of many different children’s bible books and devotionals and we have a list growing of the ones we hope to get in the future. In fact, I have some being shipped to me now!
Today I am going to share some of my favorite ones that we have - some that we have completed and others that we have not finished or have not started. This collection is made up of books that have been thrifted, gifted, purchased for school lessons or given in Easter baskets (our Easter bunny knows what we like). It’s nice to have a collection of these books because as we finish one, we can begin another. We have also done two of these at a time on occasions, since some of these are bible stories and others are devotions.
Whether you homeschool or not, devotionals/bible stories during breakfast is a great way to begin your day with your little ones! Even though we read and reread the same, similar stories, just with different pictures in different books, these stories are being engrained in my children to help them know and understand the bible. I hope and pray that one day they’ll remember the story of Daniel and the Lions or Jonah and the whale and use these stories as needed during their times as teens or adults.
There’s so much fruit to have from this…bless your children with the word daily!
This Moments With Jesus Encounter bible is a beautifully illustrated bible that takes you through the life of Jesus Christ. I really enjoy this one so far because it’s short stories (but not too short for older kids) and it ends with questions and prompts to help guide you on a family discussion. The book itself is just gorgeous and has been a nice change for us to have! You can purchase your copy of it here!
These are the sweetest books. I love the Wisdom for girls since it focuses on one of my favorite bible verses, Proverbs 31. The easter bunny gave these to our children last year. We will read the boys version once they are a little older.
This beautiful book, “Good Morning Little One,” is the perfect way to start your day together. The illustrations are just stunning and the prayers and book reads so beautifully! Grab one here if you’d like!
This collection of books is a great foundation of books for Catholic families. We did Our Blessed Mother during the Christmas season to learn more about her story and we frequently use the Book of Saints and the Apostles books for reference or book reports. Every other week our second grader has a report and presentation on a saint. The ABC saint book will be an easter gift this year and it’s great for smaller children to start familiarizing themselves with the saints.
We have already completed the Friends with God story bible and we loved it. The pictures are beautiful and the stories are so easy for the children to understand and pay attention to. We have also read from the Jesus storybook bible too and the flow of this book is great as well. I love that the illustrations in these books really bring the stories to life.
We tried the 365 devotions for kids and found that one to be a bit simple but it’s very cute. It’s a great book to let your children complete on their own each morning or it’s a great book to read aloud and discuss with little ones. The Leading Little Ones to God book is amazing! I love this book and we used it a bit during the times where we were unable to attend church during quarantine. It provides you with discussion questions to ask your children. I am hoping to get us into rhythm soon to do the Berenstain Bears bedtime book. We have had this one for awhile but have yet to start it (bedtime can be crazy here with four kids).
These two books are our current reads. My oldest reads daily from The Early Reader’s bible book for her phonics lesson and we read each morning from this bible book I thrifted recently.
Some of these books I have thrifted and love them. The Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers from Masterbooks is a wonderful set for your little ones to learn from. It teaches such important aspects of faith in an easy to understand way. Check your thrift stores for biblical based books.
I love keeping these books out for the children to discover easily. My children know that the bible is the most important and that these story books are written for them to understand and relate to. Such a great way to bring God’s words to life! Make sure to read with your little ones, but to especially read God’s word!
