My First Shot in the Butt

Well it has officially happened. After going 20+ years without ever having to receive a shot in my hindquarters, it finally happened yesterday. And it was anything but pretty.

Somehow through the years I've always managed to avoid having to get shots. I'm not one to run straight to the doctor for a cold and beg for a shot; I usually just take over the counter meds or an antibiotic. I was actually always proud to say I never received a shot in my hiney.

However now I have a sore hiney.

Apparently since I am A- blood type, I have to receive an injection because my blood is missing the Rh factor and basically my blood and my baby's blood could mix and start a war up in there. I'm a bit disappointed that my doctor didn't actually explain this shot to me; she just said "you need a shot because you're A-." Okay. Cool. What does that mean?

It wasn't until a conversation with my sister in law that I actually learned about it and then yesterday the nurse who gave me the shot actually answered my questions. Apparently people with this blood type were only able to have one child in the past because their blood would create antibodies that would try to fight off future pregnancies. Or something like that. Now because of the shot (and more future shots), I can have more kiddies and not have to worry.

Worry, me?

You're talking to someone that worries about the slightest things. You're talking about someone that wants like 3-4 children and seriously hopes she can. So am I worried? Sure maybe so. I'm not like freaking out and it's not like this is just me, but I've never heard of all this.

So, I'm curious how many readers have a negative blood type and have had to do these shots? And then had multiple babies?

And did I mention it was a ridiculously long needle? Thank goodness my husband was there, but even the needle freaked him out. I could have never done that by myself.

Next time, I want that sucker in my arm.

{nursery furniture came in yesterday! can't wait to share pictures}

Any mamas have had to do this?
